CrohnsFighting Got Fat Progress Week One

Week one of any diet is pretty much a make or break it kind of deal. Im strong willed, stubborn and I love my food ” I have people who can bear witness to this”. The main issue is my weight has been so up and down the last 14 years due to crohns, numerous surgeries and not to mention Satans tic tacs (Steroids) that I couldn’t tell myself let alone those following this diet what size I am meant to be. The aim of this diet is to get healthy and introduce healthy eating & exercise to stoma life. When weight gain or loss happens with me the first place it leaves is my face, then my chest and then lower down.

So I will now reveal how week one has gone for me. Ive also travelled to Cardiff and back to do a presentation with Pelican to discuss a stoma bag I have been trailing since October. Did I fall off the wagon? Well here is how I have dealt with week one……

Day One (Ground Zero)

So 5 days prior I started restricting all my diet coke (its gone), clearing out the fridge of all Louise temptations such as all the post Christmas cheese and started my detox of flavoured green teas & peppermint tea’s “this house has a tea leaf obsession”. So today I awoke to Ed Sheeran scaring the life out of me at half 6 in the morning. I can tell you galway girl at that time does not make me a happy morning person. I empty my stoma whilst brushing my teeth, wash my hands, chuck on my tramp clothes and set out for my morning walk, thats until I open the front door and realise its like an armageddon of rain coming down. Rain finally eases at 9 am and off I go for my speed walking of 3 miles in under an hour. I manage 3.4 minutes in 1 hr 6 minutes. Not to bad considering I was soaked through to the bone due to the incessant rain. I get back have my highly anticipated breakfast and this stinky sweating mess heads to the bath. I have to knuckle down and get some work done. Im also hosting The IBD & Ostomy Support show this evening.(you can subscribe via my blog). For some unknown reason I also decided to do squats with weights just before bed, 10 squats x 3.

Total food intake today

  • Breakfast- I have the post exercise bagel. Recipe is available on last weeks download
  • Lunch- I will be perfectly honest I missed lunch as was working and it slipped my mind
  • Tea- Cajun Turkey mince with spinach and green beans so Im a happy girl

Snacks

  • 1 boiled egg
  • 3 ryvitas with tuna paste. The recipe is included on last weeks download

Day 2

After doing the show last night I was a tired Louise but still had my personal work to deal with so was up until late. I slept extremely well though for the nearly 7 hrs worth of sleep I did get.

Breakfast

  • Scrambled eggs with feta, tomatoes, spinach and spring onions

Lunch

  • Broccoli bread with peanut butter (I didn’t enjoy this but I ate it for the peanut butter)

Snacks

  • 3 Ryvitas with tuna paste (tip for this sprinkle salt on the tuna once on the rice cake, it tastes yummy)

Tea

  • Post work exercise turkey burger with sweet potato wedges

Man alive I did the 15 minute Hiit these evening. I can honestly say 15 minutes doesn’t seem a lot but by the end of it I was a sweaty wreck with jelly legs. Don’t underestimate that workout. You will feel it the next morning. Then I settled down for the evening and watched The Godfather.

Day 3

I slept in until about 7:50 this morning. The postman woke me up with a special delivery. Decided to sort out our shopping list, had breakfast and a shower then headed out for the mammoth weekly food shop. No exercise for me today. Im building up every other day until my thighs and knees can take the strain of this Nelly the elephant doing squats. My routine for the afternoon was as always glued to the laptop working as when its from home it never really ends.

Breakfast

  • Scrambled feta eggs with spring onion, spinach and cherry tomatoes

Lunch

  • Greek omelette

Tea

  • Beef mince with plenty of veggies

Snacks

  • 4 banana & blueberry protein balls x2 (you can get these from lidl, online or from any supermarket)

Day 4

Strike a light its another Hiit training session this morning so I can just have a bagel. Yes you heard me right a bagel(but it’s so worth the 20 minutes of pain). So theres me saying FML on a Sunday morning but up I get and get through it.

Breakfast

  • Post work out bagel

Lunch

  • Cajun turkey with plenty of greens

Tea

  • Beef & chicken casserole – Im hoping this goes well as I am really bad with beef. Shall let you know tomorrow morning (here’s hoping Im not up projectile vomiting all night)

Snacks

  • 1 boiled egg
  • Tuna paste and 3 x chilli rice cakes

Just to add hilarity did I mention all this leg works means Im finding it increasingly difficult to pee due to my toilet being so low down. Trying to get myself off of the toilet without asking for help has been amusing to say the least…..

Day 5

Well the beef and chicken casserole didn’t leave me with any adverse affects. Slept straight through until my morning alarm at 6:40am. It’s back to school day so I have to drag Satan itself out of bed and get her ready for school. If you think your cranky week one into this diet then you haven’t met my 8 year old in the mornings. I perform an exorcism, get her dressed, brush her hair and off we go. I have to admit my choice of ripped jeans aren’t ideal it’s absolutely bloody freezing and I set off and do the 1.7 mile jaunt as fast as humanly possibly because Im worried my face will get stuck into permanent frown position it is that cold. Head home and knuckle down for work.

Breakfast

  • Feta scrambled egg

Lunch

  • I feel asleep and didn’t have lunch . Closed my eyes for a minute woke up at school run alarm….. Whoops

Tea

  • Beef & Chicken casserole reheated from last nights left overs

Snacks

  • Tuna & Ryvita x 3
  • 4 protein balls – you can get these from lidl. Today Im on the almond ones and its a bit like eating marzipan

Day 6

Weeeee no school run for me this morning. I potter about until 8ish, prepare breakfast and fire up the laptop for work and manage my Hiit exercise at around 11 am. Head for a bath to ease my aching thighs. Quick bag change and time to start packing. My only plans this evening are to watch silent witness and have an early night.

Breakfast

  • Feta scrambled eggs

Lunch

  • Turkey, brown rice and spinach

Tea

  • Chicken Thai Curry

Snacks

  • 4 protein balls x2

Day 7

Today I could potentially fall off the wagon. I have a lot of travelling to do today and this diet doesn’t make for easy when on the road. However I manage to secure something diet friendly at Paddington train station in a Sainsburys local.

Breakfast

  • Feta scrambled eggs

Lunch

  • Spinach & egg pot
  • Oriental King Prawns

Funny incident involving lunch. I managed to upend my spinach pot and half my lunch went on the floor. My stoma is not going to be pleasant to empty later……

Tea

  • Tapas – I stuck to the protein side of things and ate plenty of fish and meat

Snacks

  • 4 almond protein balls x2

So CrohnsFighting managed to stay on the wagon. I was really naughty and measured myself and weighed myself on day 8 and so far I have lost 8lbs and 5 inches around my body parts. Im impressed. The exercise has been a killer but Im slowly getting used to it and currently have thighs that feel like concrete. Also means this fat cow was over indulging in general. Tonight it’s my mums 51st birthday celebrations and they having Chinese and Im going to sit there with a face like a smacked bottom.

For those of you following this diet with me. How did you find week one?

Thats me for week one of this diet. No wagon carting off just yet.
